probably depends on the type of service,eg-is it drug addiction counciling on a helpline,or for a residential and day service that courts force people to go to as well as voluntary?
will get more of a chance with working for the helplines, but that will help towards going towards a bigger job in addiction.

sister works in a top level drug addiction service that prisons and community use,she has a ‘diploma’ in counciling, pyschology A level and degree, and spent years working in severe MH at support staff level, but think it was the diploma and the actual physical experience she spent working in MH that got her the job, dont think her organisation actually require degrees although may be wrong.
